CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A World Conflict II Marine with a Purple Coronary heart turned 102 years previous on Thursday.
Mr. Winton Wright Carter — generally known as “Sarge” to his mates — posed for a photograph with neighbor and News4Jax anchor Pleasure Purdy.
News4Jax has finished a number of interviews and tales with Mr. Carter. Purdy advised his story on Channel 4 in a section known as “Neighbor of valor.” They spoke about his spouse, Norma Jean, his reminiscences of WWII and coping with dying.
In 2019 he advised News4Jax that he seemingly inherited his longevity.
“I suppose I inherited it from my grandmother. My maternal grandmother, she lived to be 96,” Carter stated.
Carter was one among 5 kids born in a small city in Georgia.
“A little north of Waycross. Once I completed highschool, there was no gainful employment, so I began within the army, and I left house to go to Savannah to affix the Military, and I acquired down there and ran right into a Marine sergeant and I put the brakes on proper there. I joined the Marines,” Carter stated.

He spent 22 years serving his nation within the Marine Corps and made a profession out of the army.
